Young Ringers Workshop

Young Ringers Workshop is the first event of its kind in the greater Houston area. It is an opportunity for elementary handbell and handchime choirs to join together for a day-long event of ringing, learning, and fun. Internationally-acclaimed clinician Stevie Berryman will lead massed-ringing rehearsals and small technique classes to prepare the students for a concert at the conclusion of the workshop.

at Canyon Pointe Elementary
Trains are central to the identity and history of Tomball, TX. To recognize and honor that local connection, we’ve selected the theme “All Aboard” for this workshop. Students will check-in at the “depot,” and move through different “stations” throughout the day. But the theme will also be carried into the music we will perform. We have commissioned noted composer Kathleen Wissinger to write a new piece of music with a train theme to be learned and premiered at this workshop.
What to Expect

Massed Choir Ringing
Your students will get to ring in a massed setting with the other participants. All choirs will be required to learn one piece before the events, they will be given one piece to learn at the event, and they will write their own concert processional!

Education
Students will rotate through different stations between the massed rehearsals. Stations include Games, Composition (write a processional!), and Individual Clinics (each choir gets individual coaching with Stevie Berryman).

Performance
The final closing concert is a chance to perform for parents. Each school choir will get to ring a solo piece. The concert will close with the students premiering a work commissioned for this event, ringing along with the Houston Chamber Ringers.
